This month I’m going to discuss the simple calculations for figuring out the amount of power you are drawing when you use your electrical systems. First off, we have three 120-volt systems we use on our Motorhomes. The first is in the Vision and American Clipper models and is a basic 30 amp System. The second 30 amp system has the EMS (Electric Management System) that monitors the amount of power you are using and adjusts your input. The last is the 50 amp System. On all of the 30 amp Systems, the generator is the default system. By this I mean that whether you are plugged into shore power or not, your generator will always be the primary unit if it is on. If while you are plugged into an external power supply and you start your generator, your generator will bypass the shore power. In other words you will not be using power received through your shore cord. Well, I take that back if you own a Vision or an American Clipper, you will have to go out and plug into the generator. (But you Vision and Clipper owners already knew that, didn’t you?). You might notice that the generator has it’s own set of circuit breakers. The 30 amp Breaker goes to your main power box. The 20 amp Breaker is used to power your rear Air Conditioner (A/C). There will be occasions that you might be plugged into shore power and run both A/C’s. If you do, you’re maxed out. If you have the EMS system, it will shut down one A/C until you are done using the other power source. At that time, it will restart you’re A/C. If you don’t have an EMS, it will probably trip the main breaker in your coach or at the source. I have included a list of the different components that you will find in your Motorhome. This list shows the different amps pulled at 95° for every degree above that add 1/10th of an amp. (If the temp. is 105°F, add 1 amp). 12 Volt (D/C) 110 Volt (A/C): Amp Rating Item Amp Rating Item (approx.
